Arvin Clay
Atmospheric photography 2007-2017
This collection showcases my fascination with moody photography.  I owe credit (in part)
to electro-industrial band Skinny Puppy’s theatrical aesthetic and repeated viewings of
A Nightmare on Elm Street as a child. The melancholy nature of Skinny Puppy’s music,
and the hazy dream sequences of Elm Street etched their way into my subconscious
and is echoed in my art.
Natural light is not just an esthetic choice, but an attempt to understand my subjects.
Whether photographing decaying buildings, abandoned homes, or haunted people I see
everything as portraits. I try to capture the character and beauty in forgotten and
abandoned spaces to show the exquisiteness of what most would view as gloomy, or
foreboding.
As a self-taught photographer, my skills have been used commercially, editorially, on
film sets, and for musician’s promotional materials.
